Creative Writing

As a writer, you get to write as much as you wish among a community you can trust to tell to criticize yet don’t have to worry about things getting too harsh. You can write on your own, or take advantage of the site’s role-playing plots and write as a group either through forum posts or even live online chat rooms. Nothing is more inspiring than an immersing yourself in a group of like-minded writers and artists.

You will improve as you write more. Orson Scott Card once said, “Every writer has 100,000 words of crap” he needs to get out of his system. Well, hey, we’re happy to help you get through that before you start working on published stuff. If you write a little every day, you’ll be through that in no time; writing is not work here–it is entertainment, and when you’re having fun, learning is easy. One of the greatest benefits of a group story-writing/role-play setup like this is that in addition to the usual spelling and grammar, you’ll also develop a great sense of style, plot, and especially characterization.

Halifax is a beautiful city and I recommend it as a place to visit. =) But aside from that, I’ve been busy here on my ship and I was grateful to have some time off finally! I am disappointed that I am going to miss the 4th of July but it’ll work out in the end. I am looking forward to taking some leave when I get home! So hope to get back on the air in the next few weeks.

Indeed, I suppose we could be guilty of our own bits of silence when it comes to this site, I for one would not deny it, though in our defense, we hold no real obligations towards regular column postings, especially since all of us tend to be busy with other things. Indeed, the other side of the coin is true as we, in my humble estimation, do not get much feedback from various listeners and readers of the site. Though really those are minor frustrations compared to the main part, the silence of guests.

I will grant it is part and parcel of the routine guest drives that are held behind the scenes here, though the one that rather infuriate me is when interest is shown beforehand. One much more the none occasion there have been contacts who expressed interest in appearing on the show, but when things moved to a more formal stage, all of sudden all that could be heard was silence, dreaded, dreaded silence and it becomes vexing.

If one is truly not interested, then why show any interest in the first place? Barring that, if you are interested, I would like to be told, so I know for a fact that there is no more business to be conducted and thus can turly move on to other contacts.  A subset of this phenomenon is when a contact is shown to have an interest but there is conflicting schedule parameters, and to that I say is there is only so much flexibility we have in our own schedule and when it gets down to it we will favor guests who are willing to commit; in short, there are no reservations for maybes.

Right, with that now out of my system, it is time once again to part into the mists of time until the calling of inspiration drives me to write something new.

So yes, I am alive. I am still very much in the process of unpacking; wrapping up the last stretch of my college classes; readjusting my work/sleep schedule again; and just spending time with my family. I still have a lot to do for Salient but at least I have the new podcast update posted. =)
